Simcox's fascination with the natural world led him to earn his BSc in Geology from Kingston University before pursuing his Master's Degree in Petroleum Geoscience at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he graduated with a merit with a final project on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Before joining the energy industry, Simcox worked at Lynx Information Systems as a GIS Data Analyst and Interpretation Geoscientist for the Persian Gulf. He was responsible for analyzing and delivering regional Oil & Gas exploration GIS datasets for clients in the UK and several other countries. He has also completed several industry courses, including Myanmar, Eastern Canada, Equatorial Atlantic Margins, and European Atlantic Margins.
