I had attended a town hall meeting with Congresswoman Barbara Lee in February, just before the pandemic started. She inspired me to sign up and work with the US Census in order to make sure that all people were counted, and Alameda County would be able to procure funding for the right programs for our county. Unfortunately, the work started during the pandemic, and simultaneously to the wildfires in Northern California. I was able to spend a few months going door to door, encouraging people to answer the census questions, and meeting my neighbors. It was the smoke from the wildfires that had me stop the work, but I am glad that I did do it!

From the years of 1999 – 2003, I worked for the Buddhist Peace Fellowship where I was fortunate to produce the Bay Area events with Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist Monk, author and teacher. I was able to raise between $25,000 - $50,000 a year. It was a an honor for me to work with this amazing order of monks and to contribute to such positive events that promotes peace and balance in our often times chaotic world.

Through the Leslie Isaac Catering Company, I helped to create memorable experiences at clients weddings, parties, events and other momentous occasions.  I was able to provide a full range of services including event design and decoration, food production, coordination of lighting, sound, and audio visual, and assistance with site selections and venues. 

Other catering adventures of note include: 
A summer in Bimini, Bahamas where I was the Executive Chef for 4 months at DolphinSwim; a week-long retreat which included swimming with wild dolphins every day, and of course, enjoying delicious meals.
I was the Executive Chef for 3 summers at Zenith Institute, in the Italian-Swiss Alps, feeding between 150 - 700 people daily. It was a 2.5 month adventure where volunteers and staff built the structures for the mountainside camp providing a safe and beautiful environment for participants who came to meditate and take workshops for 1 - 5 weeks. We then spent about 2 weeks tearing the camp down. If anything, I learned my refined trouble-shooting skills here, cooking with no electricity, working with the unpredictability of the natural elements, ordering food in Italian or German, and managing a very international staff and volunteers. It was a remarkable experience and I deem myself lucky for having experienced such a dynamic role.
