Uday Desai is a prominent figure in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communication, Cyber-Physical Systems, Internet of Things, and AI. He has an extensive educational background, including a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York, Buffalo. Desai has worked as an assistant professor, associate professor, and professor at several reputable institutions, including IIT-Bombay, Washington State University, and IIT Hyderabad, where he served as founding director from 2009 to 2019. He has held visiting positions at various universities and is currently an honorary professor at Woosong University in South Korea. Desai has authored nine monographs, co-authored almost 300 peered reviewed papers in international journals, and has graduated 25 Ph.D. students and over 100 Masters students with Thesis option. Desai has received recognition for his work, including the Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Buffalo (State University of New York) in 2015 and the Distinguished Alumni Award from IIT Kanpur in 2016. He serves on the board of Tata Communications Limited and chairs several committees under MEITY, DRDO, and private organizations. Currently, he is a Strategic Consultant for Telecom Standards Development Society of India.
