Dr. Michael L. Lomax has been the president and CEO of UNCF since 2004, the nation's largest private provider of scholarships and educational support to African American students.
His leadership at UNCF has facilitated the raising of $2.3 billion and assisted over 92,000 students in achieving college degrees and embarking on successful careers.
Prior to his role at UNCF, Lomax served as the president of Dillard University and held professorship positions at Morehouse and Spelman Colleges, teaching literature.
He also made history as the first African American elected as chairman of the Fulton County Commission in Atlanta.
With academic achievements including a Ph.D. in American and Afro-American Literature from Emory University, Dr. Lomax has a broad educational background, having studied at prestigious institutions like Columbia University and Morehouse College.
His professional experience spans various roles such as president at The National Faculty, vice president at Wilson Financial Group, and president and CEO at Amistad Corporation, amongst others.
Dr. Lomax's involvement in academia includes positions as a visiting professor at Emory University, adjunct associate professor at the University of Georgia, and associate professor of English at Spelman College.
Dedicated to community service, he has also served in government roles within the City of Atlanta, including Commissioner of Parks, Libraries, and Cultural Affairs.
