Kevin Smith is a solar energy expert with over 30 years of experience in the industry. As the CEO of the Americas for Lightsource bp, a global leader in the development, financing, construction, and management of large-scale solar projects, he oversees the company's expansion across the US and Latin America. Smith has held senior executive positions with many successful energy companies aimed at developing solar and wind energy projects, as well as natural gas, oil, and biomass-fueled electricity facilities. He has actively led the development, financing, and construction of privately-owned energy projects in fifteen countries and five continents around the world, totaling more than 6,000 megawatts with long-term electricity sales contracts in excess of $60 billion.

Smith's educational background includes an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University.

Lightsource bp has achieved significant success under Smith's leadership, executing more than 2,000 megawatts of power sales contracts since January 2019 and closing on $1.2 billion in project financings in 2020. With more than 1,000 MW entering into operations and construction over the last 18 months, Lightsource bp is planning on starting construction on an additional 1,200 MW of projects in 2021 with capital costs of more than $1.0 billion.
