Kishan Matam

Kumar Venkataraman is a prominent finance professor and Chair in Energy Management at Southern Methodist University, known for his outstanding contributions to market microstructure. With a Ph.D. in Finance from Arizona State University, Kumar has honed his expertise in financial market design, trading strategy evaluation, and functioning of equity, fixed-income and energy markets. He has worked on notable consulting projects sponsored by Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and has served as an expert witness in various high-profile litigations. Kumar has published in top-tier academic journals and his research has been featured in significant publications including Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Economist, among others. He is an inaugural member of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commissions’s Fixed Income Market Structure Advisory Committee (FIMSAC), wherein he will provide advice to the Commission on the efficiency and resiliency of fixed income markets and identify opportunities for regulatory improvements.
