Robert Chang
Robert Chang is a prominent ophthalmology expert with a unique blend of academic and entrepreneurial expertise. He has a medical degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine and trained in ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis. He then went on to complete a research and clinical glaucoma fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. Dr. Chang currently serves as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford Health Care, where he specializes in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He is also the Glaucoma Fellowship Co-Director and the Coordinator for International Observers at Stanford.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Chang is a thought leader in the intersection of medicine and technology. He is involved as a mentor/consultant for early-stage healthcare startups and researches deep learning, blockchain, wearables, IOT, smartphone-based portal imaging/vision testing, telehealth, and sensors for remote monitoring and compliance tracking. Dr. Chang is also an EIR (Entrepreneur in Residence) at StartX, where he co-founded venture-backed air pollution startup AVA. Dr. Chang is also the creator of a blended biodesign, lean launch, design thinking seminar, which he teaches all around the world.
Dr. Chang is engaged in educational initiatives and has worked as a mentor/faculty for multiple drug/medical device clinical trials. He also serves as faculty mentor for the Stanford MedScholars Program and reviews NIH NEI grants. A volunteer with Orbis, the flying eye hospital, Dr. Chang is a Stanford Biodesign Faculty Fellow, Fellow for Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health, and Liaison for Center of Digital Health. Dr. Chang's professional experience is nothing short of remarkable, and his entrepreneurial vision positions him as a key player in the next wave of technological disruption in the healthcare industry.
