As an Associate Specialist on the Contemporary Art Evening Sale team, my responsibilities include:• Ownership of the design, graphics, and overall layout of the Sotheby's Contemporary Art Evening Sale catalogues, produced twice a year to accompany our New York auctions in May and November.• Responsible for the cataloging, condition assessment, and studio photography of all artworks included in our Evening sale auctions; typically, approx. 50-70 high-value works each season.• Building relationships with artist foundations and external conservators to ensure the authenticity and condition of each work included in the Evening sale.• Liaising with Contemporary clients throughout the consignment, auction, and post-sale process, serving as primary resource for information about the works included in the sale. • Executing live telephone bids and prior absentee bids for Contemporary clients during our auctions.• Partnering with the Marketing and Press teams to create compelling promotional content for the works and artists in our auctions.• Partnering with our Proposals team to design in-depth and compelling sales pitches to owners of high-value, competitively sought-after works for upcoming auctions.• Partnered with Franklyn in December 2017 - February 2018 to conceptualize and action a complete graphic redesign and rebranding of the Sotheby's Contemporary Art Evening Sale catalogues. • Partnered with Franklyn, a Brooklyn-based design firm, to create bespoke auction catalogues for Jean-Michel Basquiat's Untitled, 1982, which achieved a new auction record for the artist at $110.5 million in May 2017 Kerry James Marshall, Past Times, 1997 in May 2018.

Following a year in the Sotheby's Training Program, I joined the Contemporary Department as an Associate Cataloguer for the Evening Sale. As a Cataloguer, my duties include:• Writing a significant portion of the essays for the Contemporary Evening Sale, a biannual auction of elite, high-value works of modern and contemporary art. • Seeking and securing copyright for all images in the Contemporary Evening catalogue from studios, galleries, museums. and artist rights organizations. • Researching provenance, literature, and exhibition history for all works in the Contemporary Evening sale.• Assisting Contemporary specialists draft and publish proposals for consignment with Sotheby's Contemporary.• Liaising with Contemporary clients throughout the consignment, auction, and post-sale process. • Completing additional department and property research, as needed.

Associate Cataloguer, Contemporary Art

The Sotheby's Training Program is a rotational program for recent college graduates, designed to recruit well-rounded talent to the company. Graduate Trainee

The summer following my Junior year, I interned at Christie's in New York City. As the intern in the Old Masters and Nineteenth Century Specialist Department, I worked on several departmental projects and assisted with office administrative tasks. In the Old Masters Department, my projects included:• Speaking with clients on the phone; answering basic questions about Christie's, explaining auction house procedures, and/or directing the client on to the appropriate Specialist. • Executed daily administrative tasks and paperwork regarding the June Old Masters Sale.• Worked with several co-interns on a reorganization, cataloging, and re-shelving of the Old Masters department library to assess strengths and weaknesses of the collection.Within the Old Masters Department, I worked most closely with the two Specialists in the Nineteenth Century Paintings Department. There, I assisted with research on works that would be sold in the upcoming November NCP sale. To include a painting in a Christie's auction, the specialists need to know as much as possible about the work's ownership history, origin, context, etc. I worked mainly on provenance research, perusing catalogue raisonnes, 19th Century auction catalogues, ownership databases, collection catalogs, and, upon occasion, texts from the Frick Reference Library.

Old Masters and Nineteenth Century Department Intern

During my 2014 Winter Term, I interned at Turner Carroll Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Turner Carroll Gallery exhibits contemporary masterworks from the Americas, Europe, and Asia in downtown Santa Fe. I worked as primarily as a social media and marketing intern for the gallery.Projects Included:• Updating the Gallery's existing social media networks (Facebook, Twitter, ArtStack, Artsy, among others) and registered for a number of new networks (Tumblr, Instagram, Google+)• Integrated these networks into the social media platform HootSuite to increase efficiency and efficacy in the Gallery's marketing outreach.• Researched and wrote several press releases on upcoming exhibitions at the Gallery

Social Media Manager

I participated in the Philadelphia Museum of Art Summer Internship Program as the Photography Studio Intern. Archives:• Re-organized the PMA's collection of images from the late 19th century to present and scanned/edited (using Photoshop) images into the digital archives.• Chose photographs that could be used for social media posts on Instagram, Tumblr, and Facebook. Social Media:• Photographed museum programming for Instagram.• Live-Tweeted several museum events. The PMA's summer internship program includes a biweekly series of presentations by museum employees, tours of the campus, and field trips to nearby art organizations; these are all designed to give the PMA's interns a strong grasp for how a large, successful art nonprofit functions.

In the spring of 2012, I was selected to be a Museum Associate at the Williams College of Art. The Museum Associate Program is a program for Art History and Studio Major at Williams College who want to interact more with our on-campus art museum. In the MA Program, I:• Learned about the history/operations of WCMA and how to lead tours through the museum.• Gave a weekly tour of the Museum to a visiting group (a visit includes a tour, educational activities, arts and crafts, etc.)•  Received training in Visual Teaching Strategies for different age groups.

Following freshman year, I began working for the former director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in his private home. The project consisted of creating an organizational system for his personal archives and recording the contents of the various files, binders, and boxes in Excel spreadsheets. The long-term goal is to produce several books of memoir and museum-building; currently, we are trying to organize the material in a comprehensive and manageable manner.  This project has included:• Archiving museum press material (newspapers, magazines, press releases, etc.) from the early 1970’s to present.• Sorting and archiving internal and external correspondence.• Creating a system for recording the contents and location of numerous boxes of document files.• Creating a long-term timeline of the birth, construction, and ultimate manifestation of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

In the spring of 2011, I completed a one-month internship for Christie Mazuera Davis at the Lannan Foundation of Santa Fe; I returned for a five week internship at the Foundation in the summer of 2012. The Lannan Foundation is a Santa Fe-based nonprofit that supports contemporary artists and writers. The organization gives awards and fellowship to writers and artists, purchases art for its own collection, and sponsors celebrated writers to come to Santa Fe for the Readings and Conversation Series. In spring of 2011, I:• Assisted with the acquisition of over thirty Guy Tillim pieces for the Lannan’s collection, focusing on maintaining the records and contract of the sale. • Researched and planned the future visits and lectures of W.S. Merwin, Tariq Ali, Dinaw Mengestu, and Ann Beattie and assisted the visiting writers Joe Sacco and Chris Hedges. In summer of 2012, I:• Created a financial summary of the Sotheby’s value analysis of the Lannan’s permanent art collection for the Lannan board.• Researched and wrote artist biographies for the Lannan's website.
