I directed "The Light" by Loy A. Webb, live streamed on Shotgun Player's Youtube channel and offered on-demand from Jan 4-20.

I recruited volunteers to phone bank for Biden, Harris and Hickenlooper through direct voter communication, including 200 daily recruitment calls, targeted emailing and text campaigns. These efforts led to a 2500% increase in “active” volunteers in my assigned area of Southwest Denver. Additionally, I co-led Get Out the Vote virtual phone bank events. Responsibilities included: pre and post-event communication by phone/text/email, training volunteers, coordinating 23 volunteer leaders to run essential tasks and supervising two fellows. I utilized the voter database (VoteBuilder) daily to run reports, input data and schedule volunteers, as well as trained others on database usage. I was selected to give the statewide Field Pitch for the Vice-Presidential Debate watch party.

This fellowship provides a chance to assist the directors of Berkeley Repertory's productions throughout the season and to observe the inner workings of an artistic department at a major regional theatre. I assisted Jaki Bradley on WHITE NOISE (Suzan-Lori Parks), Annie Kaufman on BECKY NURSE OF SALEM (Sarah Ruhl) and Awoye Timpo on SCHOOL GIRLS (Jocelyn Bioh). Duties included: conducting in-depth research on the script’s themes, vocabulary and historical context; communicating clear, concise and detailed direction to actors; coordinating between the director and other creatives; collecting and sourcing images and video related to the play.

I supported auditions and casting, evaluated scripts and wrote script reports for season planning and The Ground Floor new work development lab, mentored two directors for the Teen One-Acts Festival, moderated Actor Q & A’s and produced Berkeley Rep podcasts.

Directed a production at the Berkeley Rep School of Theater Summer Intensive and directed two readings for the Young Writers of Color Collective. For each creative process, I worked extensively with the playwrights to develop their scripts.

Pack your gear for this 21st-century telling of 19th-century American explorer and one-armed Civil War veteran John Wesley Powell, who assembles a brawny band of soldiers, trappers, and adventurers to explore the waterways of the American West. Inspired by Powell’s actual travel log from 1869, Jaclyn Backhaus’s nimble and ingenious script is provocative, laugh-out-loud theater, performed by a diverse cast of women who infuse America’s historic myths of male conquest with a sly blast of subtext.

With the speed and force of Powell’s white-water rapids, Backhaus conjures her epic story—in which simple materials are transformed into perilous canyons and death-defying cliffs—out of sheer imagination, shaping an innovative and innately theatrical play, that became an off-Broadway sensation.

I assistant directed Crowded Fire's production of CHURCH by Young Jean Lee, directed by Artistic Director Mina Morita.

What does it mean to lose, gain and question faith? In CHURCH, Young Jean Lee transforms her lifelong struggle with Christianity into an exuberant church service. A traveling group of earnest reverends testify through narrative, song, and dance, testing the expectations of religious and non-religious alike. In its New York City premiere, Time Out New York described CHURCH as “no cheap satire of piety. Instead, it is an earnestly warped attempt to explore what gives religion its insidious appeal.”

I was apart of a 9-month fellowship program at American Conservatory Theater, during which I worked for both the Education and Artistic Departments. I produced Mainstage community engagement events at our multiple theaters and community sites. Representative tasks include: curating performances, panels and Lobby activities, connecting with community members, partnering with organizations, organizing ticketing/RSVP’s, coordinating with participants, managing staff assistance and logistics day-of, and supporting post-mortem reporting. Events included: Community Dinner for Hamlet including a talkback with John Douglas Thompson, Small Mouth Sounds Tech Night with a panel on the intersection of technology and mindfulness, Vietnamese Community Day for Vietgone featuring Irene Tu, Thoa Nguyen and Danny Nguyen, and the inaugural Every 28 Hours Black Arts Festival: A Healing Experience.

I pitched, planned and advocated for events that reach and bring voice to historically underrepresented communities.

I taught in high school residencies that serve majority low-income students of color: “Theatre as a Tool for Social Change” at Ida B Wells HS, “Acting for Critical Thought” at Downtown HS and Mission HS.

I completed script coverage on possible new works and grant reporting (DCYF and AT&T grants).

My administrative duties included creating organizing documents (lists, calendars, etc.) for upcoming events and shows, writing and researching for newsletters and Study Guides, and maintaining supplies.

I publicly represented A.C.T. on panels, Mainstage talkbacks and at a national conference.

I assisted in producing A.C.T.’s third annual New Strands Festival: tasks include production assisting one workshop from SPACE on Ryder Farm, identifying and coordinating with DJ’s and live entertainment, facilitating restaurant partnerships, managing artist ticket reservations and producing master classes.

As the Hive Project Manager, I will implement, launch, and shepherd this new audience development initiative. I report to and coordinate between three like-minded organizations to identify, bring together, and grow a core group of audience members to form the Hive. This Hive will cross-pollinate across all three theaters, widening our core audiences while deepening the core group’s understanding and valuation of supporting the Bay Area theater-making ecology.

San Francisco Bay Area - Crowded Fire Theater (CFT), Gritty City Rep (GCR), and Ubuntu Theater Project. A cohort of three theaters announced today an unprecedented joining of forces to cross-pollinate their audiences with the launch of The Hive, a collaborative project between Crowded Fire, Gritty City Rep, and Ubuntu Theater Project, supported by a grant from the Zellerbach Family Foundation.

The Bay Area is home to a vibrant community of over 400 theater organizations, and yet, it is rare for organizations to share resources and audiences. At a time when theater audiences are shrinking and aging out, and younger generations struggle to see the relevance of theater, theater companies tend to live in a place of scarcity and competition: for resources, for ticket buyers, for attention.

The Hive Project theaters’ artists speak to a new generation of theatergoers, and their leadership is committed to sharing in new ways. With missions rooted in community, representation, and collaboration, the Hive Project theaters have come together to subvert the scarcity model and collaborate in a deep and real way.
