Brian McManus is a partner with a focus on civil and criminal tax litigation and controversies in Latham & Watkins, based in Boston and Washington, D.C. McManus is an expert in all federal and state tax areas, with a particular emphasis on disputes involving corporate transactions, oil and gas, international tax, partnerships, virtual and cryptocurrency (Bitcoin), tax shelters, and promoter penalty defense. He also advises clients on critical areas such as compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, reporting of information, executive compensation, employee tax policy classification, and retirement and pension plans. McManus has a remarkable educational background, earning his L.LM. in Tax from Georgetown University Law Center, a JD cum laude from Suffolk University Law School, and a BA in Political Science & History from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is also an adjunct law professor at Georgetown University Law Center. Before joining Latham & Watkins, McManus served as a partner with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and worked for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of General Counsel.
