Ryan Smedes is a nonprofit program director with a wealth of experience in social impact program strategy, design, and evaluation. With a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Religion, and Economics cum laude from Pacific Lutheran University and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in International Development Policy and Management from the University of Washington's Evans School of Public Policy and Governance, Smedes boasts a robust educational background. His niche expertise areas are program design, measurement, and evaluation; program and project management; facilitation and learning; and organizational strategy and leadership.
Having worked as a Sr. Director, Learning & Evaluation at Food for the Hungry, Inc., an adjunct professor of program evaluation at Northwest University's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and as a Country Director at Food for the Hungry, Inc., Smedes has led multi-disciplinary teams to execute strategy and learning projects across multiple sectors, contexts, and complex organizational structures.
As a trained facilitator and capacity builder ensuring collaboration, buy-in, and effective organizational learning processes, Smedes has honed his skills in facilitating adult education, written and verbal presentation, and orchestrating complex organizational learning initiatives. He has also demonstrated experience in the areas of partnership development, cross-functional team leadership, and leading through change.
