In 2000, my newly adopted dog Max and I took off on a motorcycle and spent a year traveling 20,000 miles throughout North America. In a short time we were totally in sync, tuned in to each other, resulting in an amazing 13-year relationship and many incredible life-transforming experiences - for both of us. Happy Tails Canine Adventure Tours is a unique new tour company that comes out of our dedication and passion for traveling with our dogs and helping each of you fulfill that childhood dream of having that loyal sidekick that you can love unconditionally and intuitively know will transform your life. I've been to 49 US states and 45 countries. I hitchhiked from the US to Guatemala to study Spanish, hitchhiked throughout Europe, East and South Africa, and motorcycled 20,000 miles in a year throughout North America with my dog, Max. I studied with indigenous shaman and healers in the Peruvian Amazon, Panama, & the US. In Panama I married Claudia, who is the love of my life! She's a brilliant, powerful woman and attorney who is my greatest teacher. She’s the nicest person I've ever met, never has a bad word to say about anyone, is always looking for the good in everyone and everything, and finds joy even in the simplest things.I've slept alone on top of remote Mayan pyramids, in the middle of a herd of horses, and surrounded by a harem of wild elk in the Canadian Rockies while the Aurora Borealis lit up the night sky. I volunteered, training rescue dogs, as a special olympics trainer, in a Mexican orphanage, and cleaning up Louisiana after Katrina. I live life as I understand it's meant to be lived, as a joyful, challenging transformative adventure of growth, exploration and connection. I do the things that others are afraid to do because I'm afraid to do the things that others do. I grew up on a farm. Animals, nature and adventure are in my blood, offices aren't. My lap's my desk, my office is whatever's around the next corner. As a guide, the most important thing to me, besides sharing my love for the world, is that my clients have safe, fulfilling, transformational experiences that they'll remember for the rest of their lives! To this end I've participated in numerous courses and certifications including: Outward Bound Instructor Development Program; 4 dog training internships / certification courses; Canine CPR/First Aid; Wilderness First Responder emergency medical training; EMT- Basic (Emergency Medical Technician); Whitewater Raft Guide training; Swift-water Rescue Training for River Professionals; PSIA Ski Instructor Certification Level II.

I spent 4 seasons guiding class 3 and 4 raft trips on the Rio Grande with a flawless client safety and satisfaction record. My first raft trip was in southern Africa in 1993, as a client on the class 5+ Zambezi River below Victoria Falls, between Zambia and Zimbabwe. As we passed through the first rapid I was tossed out of the boat and found myself trapped under the raft. The amazing guide pulled me out and I spent the next four rapids holding on for my life. By the end of the trip we had had an amazing experience including flipping the boat and hiking a mile out of the steep canyon. I swore I would never raft again. Over the years working for Trek America I did go many times in Canada and the US and finally in Taos made the choice to go through an intensive guide training program. After 7 years in Taos, I moved to Panama and while running my own company, guided a number of trips on the Rio Chagres, Mamoni and Rio Grande rivers in the Republic of Panama.

I taught Alpine and Telemark skiing to beginner through advanced level adults and children, including special needs students, in both group and private lessons. I also regularly taught in Spanish to the large number of Mexican visitors to Taos.My love affair with skiing began when I was two years old, growing up on a large farm in upstate New York. By the time I was in second grade my parents were dropping me off at the local ski area after school to get in a few hours on the small 3-lift hill in the center of town. In college I would often ski as many as 40 days a year, often hitchhiking from Boulder up to areas such as Vail, so that I wouldn't have to drive and could spend the time studying, keeping my grades up while avoiding the stressful energy of campus during the weeks prior to midterms and finals.When I moved to Taos I had no idea of the amazing mountain with incredible terrain and quickly bought a season pass. Within two years I was teaching full time and working as a whitewater raft guide in the summers.
