Mark Cartwright is an Assistant Professor of Informatics at New Jersey Institute of Technology. With a PhD in Computer Science from Northwestern University, an MA in Music, Science and Technology from Stanford University, and a BMus in Music Technology from Northwestern University, Mark's research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction and machine learning applied to audio and music. His expertise includes human-centered machine listening, audio processing tools, citizen science research, and monitoring, analyzing, and mitigating urban noise pollution.

At New Jersey Institute of Technology, Mark continues to explore ways to enable new interactions for creative expression through sound and understand the acoustic world at scale. He is well-respected for his development of natural audio production tools that help novice musicians mix and produce music. His research has been greatly influenced by the Sounds of New York City (SONYC) project, a smart acoustic sensor network funded by NSF. In addition to being an Assistant Professor at NJIT, Mark was also a research assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at New York University, where he worked with the Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) and the Music and Audio Research Lab (MARL).
