Following my second year of university, I took a 16-month internship at IBM with the Appscan Developer and Build Edition team. I worked on manual testing, bug fixes, and large feature development on Appscan Developer Edition, an Eclipse plugin for testing web-applications for security vulnerability using blackbox and whitebox testing as well as runtime analysis.

This project allowed me to learn about writing plugins for the Eclipse Framework, user interface development with SWT, and user-centered concerns such as usability, globalization and accessibility, as I took a central role in making our product accessible to the widest possible market. I was able to work with a usability expert to learn more about effective UI design.

I also took charge on a key end-to-end feature of the product which allowed our product to run security scans on code of clients who had unusual setups. This directly impacted our ability to provide services to new types of clients.

Finally, I developed the front-end for a proof-of-concept of a web-application for viewing Appscan security scan results online using Javascript and Dojo on top of the Restlet Java web framework.
