Maureen Johnson
Maureen "Mo" Johnson-León is an accomplished advocate for equity, justice, and human rights. With a background in public health, policy, and humanitarian data, she has worked with vulnerable communities and organizations in places like Texas, Peru, Europe, South America, and India. Mo is passionate about contributing to initiatives that support healthcare, democracy, information, community participation, modeling, and biostatistics.
As the former Digital Community Program Manager at the Global Data Ethics Project, Mo helped develop ethical principles to drive data science and technology. She also contributed to the UN Panel on Digital Cooperation and presented regularly on data ethics and community building at conferences, panels, and workshops, in English and Spanish. Mo is also the Data Equity Specialist at the University of Texas at Austin, where she supports public health work and equitable participation for rural and vulnerable communities.
Maureen studied Anthropology at Rice University in Houston, Texas, and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She also completed a semester abroad at the School for International Training and the Universidad de Salamanca. She has worked with numerous organizations such as Data for Democracy, StartingBloc, and Rotary International. In addition, Mo enjoys biking, dancing, and sharing meals.
