Worked with RGU to develop their first Graduate Apprentice course in Software Development for Business, involved in the accreditation process, and subsequently recruited 2 x GAs.

Management of the process of deploying software across all curricular and corporate devices within the council area, including working with the New School Solution project team to ensure smooth roll-out of software to the 170 schools as the update is implemented.

Working with the Scottish Government as Project Manager of a key initiative to share experiences and encourage Mobile and Flexible Working across all councils in Scotland.

•	Lead responsibility in a number of areas for the design, development, testing and implementing of new and updated software applications. 
•	Assisting with the development of an overall applications strategy.  
•	Managing and developing a team of technical staff in the development and delivery of robust business information systems 
•	Leading in a number of technical applications development specialist areas. 
•	Maintaining a high level of technical competency and knowledge of the ICT environment. 
•	Providing support and guidance to all areas of ICT and the business and providing quality checks and assurance through the operational hand over process. 
•	Ensuring compliance with, and the development of, quality standards and procedures related to applications development. 
•	Leading responsibility in a number of application areas for the design of new systems to meet overall Council Objectives through specification, procurement and installation.

Aberdeenshire Council

IT Senior Application Development Analyst

Responsible for managing large projects, for major oil operators, including the following:
•	Project managed the development of a bespoke C# ASP.NET operational daily reporting, loss management, and executive reporting system. Using a Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach and working with the customer’s business analyst and operational personnel the system was commissioned on schedule and met scope and budget requirements.  
•	Liaison with users during the project lifecycle to develop Requirements Specifications, Design Specifications, User Guides, Installation Guides, Test Specifications, and Handover to Support documentation. 
•	Managing change: Involved in the integration of a team of senior systems engineers who had been embedded within an oil operator for up to ten years into Servelec’s offices. This ensured compliance with customer requirements, re-allocation of workloads, management of expectations, and creating efficiencies.
•	Co-ordination and liaison with users and developers during and at the end of the project lifecycle to develop the system test strategy, documentation, and test procedures including closing out test failures and completing the system to customer requirements.
•	In conjunction with users and project sponsors, development of strategy for transition of the system to deployment and supporting users during this transition phase; including Handover to Support process.

Servelec Controls

Project Manager/Senior Systems Engineer

Responsible for the service contract for a medium-sized oil operator, and also project managing the support and ongoing development of the Process Network and DCS for a major oil operator, and my experience also included the following: 
•	Project Managed the support and upgrade to the Condition Monitoring System for a major oil company, integrating Honeywell PHD and OSIsoft PI Data Archive, PI ACE, OPC data transfer, .NET applications, SQL, and delivery via Excel distributed files and Microsoft SharePoint.
•	Managed the development, delivery and support of an offshore data capture system for a new oil operator – utilising .NET, SQL, OSIsoft PI Data Archive and ACE systems.
•	Completed Factory Acceptance Testing of major upgrade to Honeywell PHD DCS and integration to other live systems including Modbus communications, and daily reporting within a major oil operator.
•	Managed the support and service contract for an oil operator, utilising .NET, SQL, OSIsoft PI Data Archive and ACE systems.

Digital Applications International

Project Manager & Software Engineer

Co-founded, set up and ran a small limited company. This business consultancy provided commercial support and general management training. As Company Secretary I was responsible for the legal operation and administration of the company. The company provided development and delivery of training programmes such as management training to large oil and gas companies on behalf of the ECITB. This course consisted of a number of 3-day modules covering supervision, leadership, motivation, communication/presentation, employee/industrial relations, planning, control, customer care and quality, and was delivered to large and medium-sized oil operators and support companies.

I provided online and distance learning tutorial support and assessment for business and management delegates, covering subjects such as Business Finance Management, Book-keeping, Business Studies, Planning, Economics, CPC in Road Haulage and Passenger Transport (National and International), Technology in Business, Managing a Small Business, Senior Sales and Retail Operations, and Workplace Psychology.  As NVQ assessor, provided NVQ support and assessment in management and supply chain management utilising web-based portfolio system to oil operators and support companies.

I was responsible for the operational, financial, general management, marketing, and IT aspects of the business.

The NB Partnership Limited

Owner/Director

Responsible for internal customer accounts which constituted 90% of revenue.  Responsible nationally for constructing, implementing and monitoring Inter-Business Service Level Agreements (defining the internal trading relationships) valuing circa £40m nationally and ensuring business units traded effectively and competitively together and, where appropriate, liaising with external partners to ensure a competitive service to the end customer.  Met regularly with customers to discuss service levels and implement service improvement plans where necessary and called upon input from operational and other teams to drive-through the improvements.

Royal Mail

National Sales & Marketing Manager

Responsible for all operations in the London area; responsibilities included leadership and motivation of all service delivery managers and teams (overall >200 people), managing change, communication, recruitment of staff, negotiation with unions, liaison and negotiation with customers; internal and external delivery of services in line with business strategy and customer specifications, project planning and management, Profit and Loss account for the region, and resolving all issues and concerns that arose, involving the team and any other available resources. Responsible for all aspects of people management within the area, including monthly feedback (1-1 meetings), annual appraisal/performance and pay review, Health and Safety, and recruitment.

Regional Manager - Royal Mail London

At the request of the Royal Mail Group Operations Director, undertook the role of “Interim Manager” for Royal Mail’s South East Region and successfully developed, managed and implemented a turnaround project strategy for the region. Was also responsible for all operations in the South East region, and successfully resolved an inherited conflict with a major customer that was responsible for £5m+ in revenue to the business.

Interim Regional Manager - South East

Responsible for all security operations and operational management within the region and reported to the Operations Director; this included the management and leadership of around 200 people including depot managers.

Project managed and implemented a major change process in East Anglia that enabled all cash-in-transit work to be de-integrated from Royal Mail core work and established as a separate entity in each location, in some cases moving the operations to a more appropriate location – operations at 10 main depots were taken over, including staff, equipment, vehicles, and budgets.

Project managed the integration and operation of security operations from one Anglia region and two London region depots to a new purpose built security depot for Royal Mail in East London. The new depot became the second largest in the country, and consisted of over 100 staff and managers and 30 HGV security vehicles. Once the transfer was completed this new depot became part of the Anglia region and was therefore under my operational management.

Regional Operations Manager – Anglia

As Quality Assurance Manager for Coventry and the Midlands, I was responsible for leading a team of ten QA personnel, testing service levels, implementing changes to improve services, and providing regular reporting to senior management. I project managed a major revision of all mechanised and manual mail operations in the regional distribution hub; it was necessary to implement the changes during normal operations without disruption to services, so the actual change process was scheduled to be completed during one weekend.

Selected amongst strong competition to manage major Quality Assurance project to ascertain weaknesses in the Royal Mail delivery and despatch services – quality improved from 89% to 97%.
