Tim Irnich

Tim Irnich is a seasoned product manager with a strong background in the telecommunication industry, currently serving as the Product Manager for the telco-optimized flavor of SUSE Edge.

With a wealth of experience, Tim is adept at helping customers comprehend the utility of products and envisaging their evolution over time. His role involves gathering and deciphering customer requirements for the development teams to act upon.

Having held various roles at SUSE in developer relations and community advocacy, Tim's expertise spans different facets of product management.

Before joining SUSE, Tim contributed significantly to Ericsson, focusing on Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and the integration of open source technology in the telecommunication landscape.

Noteworthy achievements include spearheading a program at Ericsson to align Cloud-related open source initiatives and standardization efforts. Additionally, Tim served as the Chairman of the Technical Steering Committee for Linux Foundation's Open Platform for Network Function Virtualization (OPNFV) project.

Tim's academic pursuit includes a Doctorate in Engineering Science with a focus on spectrum demand estimation for wireless communication systems, achieved with the highest distinction at RWTH Aachen University. Prior to this, he completed his studies in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Applied Computer Science at the same institution.

Throughout his career, Tim has held pivotal positions, such as Distinguished Product Manager Edge for Telco at SUSE, Director Community Evangelism at SUSE, Senior Program Manager Developer Engagement at SUSE, and various leadership roles at Ericsson, including Program Manager Cloud Open Source & Ecosystem, Acting head of SDN and Policy Control System & Technology, and Master System Designer for SDN Systems & Technology.

Tim's professional journey began as a Research Engineer at RWTH Aachen University, where he also started as a Student Helper before transitioning to roles at Siemens ICM and eventually exploring the realms of telecommunication tech at Ericsson and now SUSE.
