Andrew Ashoyer is a prominent global trade lawyer with extensive experience working in the public and private sectors. Ashoyer's expertise centers on using global rules to create opportunities for businesses to compete successfully across borders. In his former role as Counsel at US-China Business Council, Ashoyer advised global financial institutions on compliance with U.S. economic sanctions. He has also worked in Washington and Geneva to help shape the rules that govern global commerce, including NAFTA, WTO, and ITA. Ashoyer has also worked on developing solutions aimed at addressing carbon leakage risks and has advised a Brazilian trade association on the impact of trade rules on the European Union's renewable fuel standard. He has also successfully helped clients use WTO dispute settlement procedures to overcome regulatory hurdles, such as European Union's moratorium on approvals of agricultural biotechnology and Ontario's local content requirements on green energy projects. At Sidley Austin LLP, Ashoyer is a co-leader of the Global Arbitration, Trade, and Advocacy Practice, where he helps firms navigate complex international regulations. Additionally, Ashoyer is a former adjunct professor at Georgetown University, where he taught International Trade Policy, and a former co-chair of the International Competition Policy Experts Group at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
