I positioned the company as a visionary leader among KOLs and the scientific community, helmed all commercial (S&M) and product development (R&D) activities, and navigated this early commercial entity to a successful launch into the marketplace. We started the company from virtually nothing and assembled a highly motivated, focused team that took a proprietary neurological sensing technology to market and created a new category of ICP monitoring and access medical devices. I devised and executed product commercialization, hybrid sales channel, and capitalization strategies, and closed on $10 million in Series A funding in early 2014. We have overcame steep hurdles (funding, design, regulatory approval, etc.) to create value around a disruptive technology poised to become the gold standard of care in the clinical marketplace.

Recruited by the CEO of this VC-funded start-up, I led the worldwide commercialization of a less invasive cardiopulmonary medical device. I grew revenues to $7.5 million by conceptualizing and implementing the company’s global market strategy and establishing the corporate identity and brand. Transitioning from an R&D project to a commercial concern featuring a highly disruptive product design requires substantial funding. I assisted in the C and D rounds, meeting with over 60 venture capitalists in the Bay Area, New York City and Boston and generating substantial interest. We closed round C with $23million and received term sheets for $30 million in D round, ensuring the company could meet its strategic objectives and prevent any disruption to its current R&D projects and anticipated commercial expansion plans.

After project managing the development and launch of this novel post-operative technology, I led an Advanced Development Team that researched promising early stage technologies. Given the volume of opportunities at hand, it was immediately clear an organized, systematic approach to the business development process was needed to ensure we surfaced the most suitable deals with the best strategic fit. The system I created simplified the process of tracking and managing the high-volume interaction with potential business partners and achieved the goal of illustrating the value of each deal based on the intellectual property and how it added to our current product portfolio.

Product Development Manager, On-pump Franchise, 1998 to 1999Territory Manager, 1997 to 1998CTS was formed in 1996 and I joined the company as sales rep #10. In my initial role, I achieved a 550% CAGR in less than 12 months by developing a program to support the surgical learning curve. Shortly thereafter, I was tapped by my CEO to develop an on-pump cardiac surgery franchise despite the company’s primary focus on developing and growing its pioneering off-pump technology. Subsequent to my team’s launch of two new products, CTS was well positioned for acquisition with a full suite of cardiac products that addressed different market segments of cardiac surgery. This ultimately added $30 million toward the exit price. I was named Product Manager of the Year for 1999 and was retained by Guidant as part of the $313 million acquisition.

Recruited by the Vice President of Sales to join this publically traded company to drive the sales of their critical care product line, I increased Iowa sales from $585k to $715k [90% to 110%] to plan and was selected Rookie of the Year in 1993.I subsequently transitioned to the Bay Area to take over a territory that was 80% to plan and grew total revenue from $600k to $846k [80% to 112.83%] to plan and was chosen as a $100 million Baxter Club Member (1995).
