Paul Laybourn is a highly accomplished biologist with a passion for improving student learning outcomes through innovative, active learning methods. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara, followed by a PhD in Biology from the University of California at Davis. His research focuses on ways to engage students in complex biological concepts and ideas through undergraduate research experiences and applications to socio-scientific issues.

Laybourn has held numerous academic positions throughout his career, including Director and PI at Colorado State University, where he currently oversees research programs related to molecular biosciences. He has also served as a Co-Director and Co-PI for the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program at Front Range Community College and Colorado State University, as well as Director for the Master of Professional Natural Sciences Program.

In addition to his academic contributions, Laybourn has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California at San Diego and has studied Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography at the University of Southern California. He is a highly respected figure within the scientific community and has numerous publications to his name.
