Rob Thornton is a distinguished energy professional who currently serves as the President and CEO of the International District Energy Association (IDEA). With over 25 years of experience in the energy industry, he has worked extensively on integrating clean energy development with urban planning, environmental policy advocacy, and international business development. He interacts with prominent institutions such as the US Congress, United Nations, US Department of Energy, and US Environmental Protection Agency to promote sustainable district energy and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) infrastructure. Thornton's key objective is to raise awareness about district energy/CHP to improve resiliency, cut emissions, and enhance sustainability for a circular economy. Thornton studied Psychology/Energy & Environment at Tufts University, and he is also the publisher of District Energy magazine and organizer of 3-4 influential international conferences every year.
