Christopher Avery is a seasoned design research and UX professional with extensive experience managing global research projects across various industries. Avery has helped clients innovate both within and outside their domains by delivering design solutions that resonate with their target audience. With a laser focus on designing compelling services for the smart home, Christopher has been an integral part of the Google Nest organization, where he leads qualitative research efforts to understand how the home experience has shifted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Christopher's background is steeped in anthropology, having earned his Masters in Applied Anthropology from San Jose State University and his Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. His areas of expertise include ethnography, participatory research and design methods, co-creation, basic quantitative research methods, evaluation and validation, facilitation, organizational/process diagnostics, analysis, synthesis, and communicating research.
Currently, Christopher serves as the Senior User Experience Researcher at Google Nest, where he supports innovation and enhances the user experience. Before joining Google, he held various roles, including Senior UX Researcher at eBay, User Experience Researcher at Yahoo, Design Anthropologist at SonicRim, and Graduate Assistant at the Department of Anthropology at San Jose State University. Christopher is passionate about inspiring teams with compelling research and insights that underscore innovation and enrich the user experience.
