Large multi-national entity that operates as a conglomerate of many large businesses. Large centralized IT department.  I led major transformational change in strategy and strategic technology planning for the department. Initially hired as a consultant, later converted to a full time employee. I mentored 20 senior business directors in strategic planning and counseled with the CIO in the development of an enterprise strategic planning processes that connected strategy to measurable execution. Major results:
- Helped transform technology delivery to a shared-services / business-driven operation.
- Transformed business planning from a short-term orientation to a strategic plan-do-check-act and measure culture.
- Moved the organization from a 1-year crunch-type budget drill to multi-year strategic planning that produced strategies, imperatives, and projects in the form of annual technology execution plans.
- Transformed the department’s program delivery method to integrate strategy development and partner alignment as the first stages of thinking.
- Transformed concept of PMO and was an engaged sponsor for the formation of a new PMO.
- Led strategy offsites with over 35 directors and the CIO’s staff to collaborate cross-divisional strategies and core infrastructure roadmaps, to include major discussions on cloud services, core database services, CRM technologies, people strategies, and other core technology operations.
- Led the business process and strategy for a new plan-to-execute enterprise-wide solution and software set.
- Identified the need for and produced a workflow tool to automate key financial and deliverable decisions affecting cross-portfolio and cross-divisional strategies, budgets, and execution agreements.

Strategic and Business Planning Program Development

Recruited to lead the design, development, and delivery of strategic software applications. Drew upon my technology, business, and academic experiences to establish a program focus, implement agile thinking and development, and showcased AGI’s unique intellectual property advantages.
- Created a competitive consulting advantage by developing patented ideas into software solutions.
- Led the agile development process for three major software initiatives.
- Major software included a multi-million dollar supply chain buffer management software for clients who serviced department of defense (Navy and Marines). This unique software used a one-number prioritization algorithm to set priorities, increase throughput in the supply chain and manufacturing processes, and adjust schedules for planned and unplanned variability. Produced a 20% increase in throughput immediately resulting in millions of dollars in additional revenue for manufacturing vendors while eliminating critical delays in the end-client supply chain.
- Designed and led the development of a project portfolio custom application that synchronized tasks around critical resources based on a unique demand-driven algorithm that I helped formulate.

Avraham Y. Goldratt Institute (AGI)

Program Director, Software Development

CorVel Corporation is a healthcare services provider specializing in bill review and claims management. Responsible for DevOps, budget of $20m; staff of 82. Led transformation from a tactical approach with technology to become a significant competitive advantage arm of the business. Reinvented the organization by building a model that integrated DevOps and AppDev deep into revenue functions of the business. Result – world-class IT organization. Responsibilities included three data centers, systems integration for ERP and supply chain applications, desktop operations, EDI operations, customer services, network and telephony, training, and security. Key accomplishments include:

- Helped re-engineer how technology is delivered from design-to-production.
- Implemented coaching and mentoring and built a leadership pipeline to pull future IT leadership from.
- Developed and published IT and security policies for the company.
- Implemented IT architectural model to support 10x growth.
- Implemented 24x7 operational NOC.
- Consolidated 150 independent offices into a single operation: $2.5m improvement to bottom line.
- Relocated complex data center consisting of 400+ servers without a single outage or issue.
- Established enterprise purchasing and negotiated $4m annual savings to Microsoft and other contracts by changing procurement processes, defining and implementing vendor strategies, and controlling expenses.
- Established enterprise change management processes facilitating over 1,500 successful changes annually.
- Implemented human resource planning, succession planning, and career development strategies.
- Implemented audit controls to comply with SOX404 and SAS70.
- Developed security policies and implemented HIPAA compliance.

CorVel Corporation

VP, IT Operations

Provided IT consulting and business development services generating over $4m in new revenues for clients. Customers included: Nike, Westech Information Systems, BC Hydro, LSI Logic, State of Oregon, Nordstrom, Centre for Education and Information of British Columbia, FB&B Consulting Group, ProSight, Alkana and Company, The Window Broker, and CGI. Key accomplishments include:

- ProSight (early-stage startup software company) – built strategic relationships; consulted on product development; part of a team that secured $28m in venture funding; generated over $1m in startup revenues.

- FB&B Consulting Group – developed best practice delivery modules for IT management and CRM solutions integration. Directly generated $1.6m net new revenues.

Consultant - Software Startup

Principal, Whitehead & Associates, Inc.

Recruited from Nike to Sequent Computer Systems (acquired by IBM). Led IT for sales, marketing, and professional services, divisions across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. Launched CRM; automated global sales procedures; created long-term IT strategy; managed a virtual team of 125+. Key accomplishments include:

- Key member of a team that opened $50m revenue channel by forging strategic alliance with Siebel and securing $11m direct sales contract.

- Shaved $8m annual expense from IT budget through consolidation and automation.

Led IT for Americas region. Led a 20-member cross functional senior management team through complex redesign. Member of CIO’s executive team for global strategy during time of exploding growth ($4 billion to $9 billion). Key accomplishments include:

- Centralization of a $300m distributed cost center, creating $23m of new IT capacity and tight business alignment.

- Directed IT group for a $400 million region including Latin America and Canada; 25 direct reports and $16m budget. Key role in the Americas opening Brazilian market; established IT infrastructure for distributor network.

- Developed controls that governed $70m in corporate IT projects.

- Led global centralization of network operations and computer support. Saved $3m via vendor renegotiations.

- Revolutionized the ability to communicate across the company by stabilizing the first global network and linking performance management to business drivers.

I rose through the ranks from Private to Captain receiving several meritorious promotions and awards. Key accomplishments include:

Executive Officer – Recruiting (Equivalent to Regional Sales Director)
Led organization from last place to first in sales and service. Responsible for the quality and performance of all phases of recruiting and training (from acquisition to induction to receiving to graduation). Managed complex supply chain - daily shipping requirements with demographic, ethnic, gender, educational, and test score sub-category requirements. Territory encompassed Oregon and part of Southern Washington. Responsible for 9 districts; 25 offices, and 49 staff.

IS Manager, 2nd Marine Division
Information Systems Manager for 12,000 person organization. Pioneered new communication technologies in combat and changed the way critical battle plans were coordinated. As a result, received second Navy Achievement Medal. Led strategic planning in systems and telecommunications. Introduced encrypted digital network during a highly volatile and dynamic work environment (Desert Storm). Created the first mobile network control unit deployable in a field within 30 minutes of landing. Prototype later adopted by the Marine Corps.
