I manage, grow, and support a development team building isomorphic applications in a React/Node environment:

-  Maintain several highly-stable web applications.

-  Improve metrics affecting inbound traffic, user retention, inclusive accessibility, and fast website performance.

-  Provide training and support to developers through regular 1-on-1’s, daily team code reviews, and frequent pair programming.

-  Build a team culture of unity and inspiration, improve team and larger organization performance, and contribute to overall product vision and planning.

-  Serve on advisory committees for product planning, high-performing teams, and the squad organization model.

I also serve as a SME in the port of our .NET website backend to Node.js:

-  Created and maintain Node.js server framework to support multiple independent webpage applications owned across many teams.

-  Created micro-application architecture for apps to be tested and deployed independently, enabling rapid development across teams and reducing cross-team delays.

-  Customized and maintain AWS-based architecture using EC2 AMIs, S3, Auto Scaling, Cloud Formation, and Cloudfront.

-  Provide ongoing support and training for developers and stakeholders throughout the Product and Engineering teams.

Engineering Manager

Working closely with executive leadership, I managed the product roadmap and oversaw product development. I delivered exceptional value to the company by maximizing the effectiveness of a small team, defining incremental deliverables for continuous delivery, and iterating quickly in weekly sprints.

Specific Accomplishments:

-  Concepted and designed the unification of our four core products into a single system, significantly reducing maintenance effort, server costs, and duplicated development of new features. Overseeing the sunsetting of two legacy systems, with several more systems scheduled to be sunset over the next 12 months.

-  Collaboratively designed the newest version of our high-performance search service with our lead architect. Focused on allowing customization at multiple levels while using a single interface, minimizing the complexity of adding new features as business and market demands change.

-  Led the design and development of our JavaScript SDK, built on AngularJS to maximize flexibility for users with varying levels of technical experience.

-  Led weekly retrospectives and optimized the development process to meet the needs of the business and of the team. Scouted, interviewed, and hired new team members to build a team that works together effectively and is able to deliver on the company's stretch goals.

-  Created and managed our two-person Product Team to maximize the effectiveness of development efforts, increase research and customer involvement in early-stage development, and provide internal and public-facing tutorials and documentation for product features.

Serving under the VP of Development, I provided the day-to-day coaching and management for the development team.  I filled the role of technical lead on most projects, meeting with clients early in the planning process and providing technical expertise and oversight throughout the entire project timeline.  I worked closely with the project management team to ensure on-time deliveries, customer satisfaction, and ongoing customer support.

Specific Accomplishments:

-  Managed 8-10 developers of varying skill levels.  Provided training opportunities and one-on-one coaching to promote continuous improvement of the team.  Facilitated weekly sprint planning meetings, promoted intra- and inter-team collaboration, and fostered sustainable work-life balance across the team.

-  Provided detailed project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resource plans to the project management team.  Maintained open communication with project managers to address changes and risks as early as possible.  Trained individuals and teams across the organization on technologies and tools they needed to fulfill their duties.

-  Prototyped new technologies and integrations being considered for client projects.  Considered short- and long-term strategy in selecting new technologies or vendors.  Spearheaded initiative to sunset multiple homegrown CMS versions in order to focus resources on revenue-generating development.

-  Advocated for company growth strategies and opportunities.  Provided input to executive leadership to maximize client satisfaction, product quality, and lifetime customer value.

Software Development Manager

As a part of a small development team, I was a key player in designing and implementing large-scale features for <a href="http://RightStart.com">RightStart.com</a>.  I developed modules for Magento (PHP, MySQL) and enhanced the front-end customer experience (PrototypeJS, HTML/CSS).

Specific Accomplishments:

-  Maintained and enhanced current website, Magento installation, and add-on modules.  Worked with lead architect to concept and design implementation strategies for new features and to increase stability of current ones.

-  Created a gift registry interface for new parents.  Used the current integration with Endeca Search to dynamically suggest products to add to the registry based on defined categories and quantities.  Implemented a front-end registry experience that utilizes progressive disclosure and recurring gratification to keep users engaged and increase gift registry size.

-  Researched, prototyped, and developed an in-store gift registry scanner.  Using iPod Touch and third-party iPod cases with barcode scanners, designed and implemented a web-based interface to add products to gift registries.  Provided training and ongoing support to all store associates using registry scanners, which also served as input into the project's iterative development.

I was hired by this small paint and art supply chain in Colorado as their only web developer in order to list their products online.

Specific Accomplishments:

-  Researched ecommerce platforms to determine which options would provide required ecommerce functionality while minimizing operation costs.  Worked with key stakeholders to review options and make final platform decisions.

-  Created wireframes and mockups using ecommerce conventions and best-practices.  Implemented front-end HTML/CSS to match approved designs.  Selectively added animations, transitions, and interactions to optimize usability and build credibility with users.

-  Developed process and automation to synchronize the current inventory management software with the new ecommerce store.  Worked closely with buyers and department managers to streamline inventory process and keep data up-to-date.

-  Imported product data and images from vendors.  Used a variety of methods to capture and transform data and images to populate store data.
