I worked with the traders of the Belgrave (Vic) shopping precinct in giving maximum exposure to shopping and businesses to both locals and tourist destination visitors.  Businesses in the shopping precinct include retail stores, cafes and restaurants, general food services (supermarkets, butchers, etc), nightspots and cinema, and  professional service providers.I created a social media strategy and plan across platforms to bring tourists to the shopping area and to give locals the confidence and knowledge to shop locally rather than taking their business out of town.

In addition it supplies advocacy and consultancy services to small enterprises seeking help with local workplace incidents by providing a conduit between these groups and qualified personnel.

The Bushfire Bereaved Community Support program was an important part of the 5 year journey since the devastating Victorian Bushfires of 2009. In my role as Project Manager I worked closely with the Bushfire Bereaved Advisory Group (BBAG) all of whom had lost a loved family member/friend as a direct result of the Black Saturday bushfires, community members who had lost family, friends, neighbours, and with the Fire Recovery Unit, DHS, and DoH.The program provided support, information, and services to those bereaved by the bushfires. This was achieved through meeting support, social events and activities to create and renew connections, conferences and forums.The program achieved significant community re-connectedness for hundreds, if not thousands, of people.Other important achievements of the program include:- The 2013 “Post Traumatic Growth: From resilience, stress and trauma, positive life changes can grow” conference.- The Legacy Document compiled and written by the BBAG which will provide vital learnings to benefit people involved in future disasters.

Project Manager - (statewide) Bushfire Bereaved Community Support program

This role was created in the aftermath of the 2009 Victorian bushfires.  It was created as it was widely recognised that there was a vital need for organisations, agencies, and government to have in place plans, policies, and procedures for the safety of staff and clients working/living in areas of high bush/grassfire risk through the bushfire season.My work included development of the EACH Bushfire Policy - this Policy was used as an important first reference point for many other organisations in the development of their own Policies.It was essential for me to attain a broad knowledge of fire behaviour for this role.  I met with members of the CFA and other fire educators to learn - and I enjoy continuing to learn.  I planned and organised training and information sessions for staff in bushfire preparations and safety.  These sessions were vital in helping staff to understand parts of the EACH Bushfire Policy which in some cases challenged beliefs and personal plans.On days of total fire ban and/or high fire danger I was responsible for monitoring fire activity through all areas in which staff were working on-site or in outreach roles - I kept a register of staff whereabouts through the day and was in contact with staff and management regarding the current situations and potential dangers.

The Yarra Glen Community Fire Relief Centre was set up by an inspiring group of community members in the immediate aftermath of the Black Saturday bushfires.I joined the Centre as manager to transition the centre from the community member management team to management by local council.The centre provided space to counsellors, DHS, VBRRA, Centrelink, Small Business mentoring, local council, and community members.

Recovery Centre Manager

As Bushfire Recovery Coordinator I coordinated EACH’s initial response team of approximately 65 counsellors, psychologists and support workers through coordination of client placement, and referral to other services and agencies. This team of counsellors, psychologists and support workers are also full-team members of other service area teams – so, it was imperative to ensure that the responsibilities to both teams were met and the needs of the clients were not neglected in any way. As the role evolved I became responsible for the development and implementation for programs and services to educate and involve the people living in the areas burnt by the 2009 Victorian bushfires. Engaging community was an important and essential way to connect people to services.I worked closely with the Victorian Bushfire Case Management Service (VBCMS), the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority (VBRRA), and the Fire Recovery Unit (FRU) and also with other agencies/organisations, and local governments.I created networks of agency/organisation workers, Red Cross, FRU, church and welfare groups, and local governments who were actively involved in bushfire recovery work - these networks were created to ensure that work was able to be done efficiently and cohesively to best benefit the communities. I was also an active member of other similar networks.I was a member of the Red Cross "Communicating in Recovery" project in 2012.In 2014 I was one of only 80 people from six countries invited to share my insights and experiences in disaster recovery - the project "Supporting the Supporters in Disaster Recovery" was undertaken by the New Zealand Red Cross through the Winston Churchill Fellowship as part of the Christchurch 2011 Earthquake recovery.

In my role as Personal Executive Assistant to the CEO at EACH my role included extensive secretarial and administrative work to the CEO, the senior management team, and the Board of Management. In February 2009 I was seconded from this position to that of Coordinator of the newly formed Bushfire Recovery team.
