In this role I will be responsible for delivering an online training programme to support, enhance and up-skill Bristol and the West of England’s visual arts sector. This programme will focus on supporting the practices of diverse artists, art workers, and artist-led organisations through fundraising and skills development workshops to equip people for the post-pandemic world better. Aimed at
supporting practitioners to develop their resilience and gain new skills, the programme will also be developed in consultation with the sector, based on the changing needs identified across the region.

- I have worked with my co-producer to successfully raise funds from Arts Council England, Bristol City Council, WECA, and Battersea Arts Centre.
-  On participatory primary school project Epic Fail, I acquired workshop materials, assisted with get in and get outs with the partner schools, contributed to contract negotiations with project evaluator UWE.
-  Epic Fail has been revived for Battersea Arts Centre’s Moving Roots touring network.
-  On youtube series Noisy TV, I located a suitable shooting location and negotiated a deal to lower the price in exchange for a feature in the credits. I sourced sound assets, supported the on location crew and researched childrens youtube channels. Noisy TV is still in development.
-  I co-designed participatory schools project Kid Carpet Asks to tackle creative skill gaps in primary school and co-wrote a successful funding bid for it. I helped form project partnerships with Rising Arts Agency and Mufti Games, and participated in workshops to create and deliver workshops designed to gain information from primary aged children.
-  I facilitated the company christmas show on Zoom in partnership with the Pound Arts Centre. This featured the pilot of our successful pay what you want scheme to improve access to working class audiences.

In my work as a freelance producer I provide support where necessary for artists and organisations. I am in the process of developing a range of workshops focusing on wellbeing and organisational development, as I feel they are inherently linked, and worked with UWE on their first year undergrad workshops in resilience and wellbeing. I have also worked with Bristol based improvised theatre companies The Delight Collective and Stomping Ground to advise on funding applications, with an intention to continue support whether those applications are successful or not. Recently I worked as Production Assistant on Tom Marshman’s show A Haunted Existence for its initial run at The Island.

Mr G Johnson (Sometimes known as Graham) is a Bristol based comic artist, illustrator and curator, creating work about the world he experiences. Dealing with mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, and more, he strives to bring some fun to the world with bold character based art. He has been self publishing comics for years, and professionally has produced work for the National AIDS Trust, Theatre Bristol, Horseplay and the Bristol Improv Theatre.

I am providing support across Kid Carpet's audience development projects, organising filming locations, working on schedules, contracts and budgets, researching and engaging PR for the projects and any other areas of support as required.

The Arts Council England and Bristol City Council funded activity includes:
Epic Fail: a series of three residencies in primary schools exploring ideas of failure and wellbeing to develop a performance lecture on the subject. This project is also supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering Ingenious Grant.
Noisy TV: a youtube series building on Kid Carpet's existing characters, the Noisy Animals.

Assistant Producer

With Trigger I was Assistant Producer from August 2019-April 2020 and again from November 2020-September 2021. In that time, I provided support across the programme, working on The Hatchling, Curio, Imaginary Advice and WithYou.
When the company went through a period of rapid growth, I was able to focus my efforts on The Hatchling. My focus was on contracts, research, procurement and evaluation.
In addition to this I:
-  produced access provisions for The Hatchling, ensuring BSL interpretation, Audio Description and a quiet zone for the event and Easy Read info for the website.
-  was responsible for a 500% uplift in audience feedback in sharings
-  assisted with the installation of Curio when it toured to Illuminate Light Festival in Plymouth
-  maintained the organisation’s website and social media
-  developed a funding bid for an associate artist scheme
-  developed relationships with Kickstarter UK and US’s arts and culture leads
-  developed a crowdfunding plan for a major outdoor arts project.

Trigger Stuff

Closer Each Day Company, an improvised theatre company whose primary work is a fortnightly improvised soap opera at the Wardrobe Theatre brought me on board as producer earlier this year. My work in this role was primarily focused on reworking a rejected Arts Council England Grants For The Arts bid for the company, both fixing the issues raised in the feedback given to the company and to update it for the new Project Grants format. Following completion of that bid, my role expanded to cover duties such as booking shows, creating policy documents, and finding clients for corporate workshops.

CLOSER EACH DAY COMPANY

I worked with Sleepdogs on their organisational development, with a particular view to help their wellbeing situation. I worked with them to write a wellbeing policy for them and collaborators, and to create drafts of job descriptions and a possible script for a film introducing their work. These were all also informed by focus groups about how people currently see them, and what aspects of their online presence resonated with their audience.

On this project I coordinated documentation of the project, working with a filmmaker to create 2 short films. This involved liaising with artists and partners, arranging locations, collecting accreditation and keeping the producer informed of progress and the brief interpretation. In addition I prepared copy for Watershed’s website, and there is potential for targeted audience outreach, social media during the event, liaising with Watershed Communications department and audience evaluation analysis.

Assistant Producer, Layered Realities 5G showcase weekend

Backline was an organisation set up in Bristol to support improvisers. Whether you'd just heard of improv and wanted to find out where to do it, or you had an amazing show and you weren't sure how to go about touring it, we  provided advice and support for your problems. Most of all we addressed the difficulties a lot of improvisers face trying to advance from learning improv to making teams and performing their shows on stage.
