Girls and young women in or affected by the public care system are amongst the most disaffected and vulnerable members of our society, disproportionately grappling with: ● Domestic abuse: 1 in 3 girls in care will be sexually abused (NSPCC 2017), and over 70% of sex workers are care experienced ● Mental health issues: 45% of LAC have a diagnosable mental health disorder (NHS 2016),● Unemployment and underachieving in education: 188,000 more girls than boys are NEET in the UK (DFE 2016). These are just some of the major indicators that demonstrate the complexity of the challenges that these young women are faced with. Sister System is a future-focused, dynamic early intervention programme,  that exists  to bridge the gaps in current provision and support young women so they can seek the right help, avoid or recover from these risks and become confident, successful and productive members of our society

Senior Strategy Consultant

Appointed to a 2-month secondment managing a Labour group office, providing political support to 50 Labour Councillors. Responsibilities include; campaigns and policy work, building and maintaining relationships with local and national media, handling press queries, briefing Councillors and staff on key issues, overseeing the casework system and its staff, and sustaining relationships with business and community partners. While in this post I was also still delivering work as part of my substantive post; this required me to prioritise and deliver under incredibly tight deadlines, balancing reactive work with longer-term projects, and to maintain focus in times of high pressure.

Delivery is through a number of activities - - consultancy in the run-up to institutional review- writing national guidance on all areas of the institutional review process- writing and delivering national training, both in person and as online modules- development and delivery of 5 annual networking events as well as a national conference with 180 registered delegates  Additional activities include responding to government and sector consultations, writing and research for policy briefings/recommendations, speaking at local and national events, delivering training workshops on various policy areas, involvement in national campaigns.

Institutional Review (England and Northern Ireland) is QAA's review method for universities and other higher education institutions in England and Northern Ireland. It involves a thorough evaluation of an institution's educational provision and results in a published report that makes judgements and recommendations about academic standards and quality, as well as highlighting good practice.As part of a review team, I trained to make judgments on how an institution:- sets and maintains threshold academic standards- manages the quality of students' learning opportunities- enhances its educational provision- manages the quality of its public information (from 2012-13).I was also appointed a reviewer for the RCHE method for providers of higher education in a further education setting.

Elected at annual Higher Education Zone conference as one of six on a “co-ordinating committees” that “leads the Zone”. In practical terms this meant:. - Using the reports and consultations from delegates at zone conferences to make a number of policy suggestions to students’ unions.  - Following National Conference, decide the priorities for the zone based on policy that was passed and also policy that existed already from previous conferences. - Create a ‘Way Forward’ document in June to outline the work of the zone over the following academic year. - Scrutinise the work of the Vice President (Higher Education) on their work. - Report back to National Executive Council meetings on progress of the zone’s work and face scrutiny from this body. - Report back to National Conference on the work done since the previous year and face scrutiny from this body. - Make suggestions for a zone conference agenda, including topics to be discussed in plenary sessions, workshops and debates and consult the membership on these.

3 months after starting work as a Connector I was promoted to managing the team of 6 Connectors based at both the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent campuses. This included providing support and training for the team, as well as organization and management of events to promote the launch of new brand-endeavours, representing the brand at large national events and creating and implementing viral marketing activities. I liaised with regional management and managed all HR aspects of my teams work, such as sign-off of timesheets and managing expenses and absences.

Duties included data input, use of HRIS (Oracle) system, file stripping, answering telephones, organising travel and accommodation, responding to job applicants, dealing with internal and external post, taking minutes, working with the graduate scheme team, and general office duties. I was also tasked with a research project for Senior Management that involved communication with global organisations, embassies, national statistical offices and international databases, academic institutes and analysis of large volumes of data. I was provided with the project background and a basic project plan but otherwise developed the research project alone.
