I have decided to dedicate the next decade of my life to doing whatever I can to support climate action and achieve the UN's goal of keeping global warming to less than 2 degrees from pre-industrial levels.

I was first interested in this topic in 1999 when I was studying at MIT and met Jay Forrester, who had created a computer simulation for the Club of Rome showing the Limits to Growth of an ever-increasing population on Earth living in an unsustainable way. Next came the book Beyond the Limits and dire warnings from many scientists since the late 1980s.

Knowing that this is such a huge issue that is global and interrelated across multiple complex systems, I am well aware that any impact I can make as an individual will be small by itself; however, together with other people, companies, and governments worldwide, we could make a dent in our emissions and show that change is possible.

Greenhouse is a climate action ecosystem connecting governments, scientists, companies, climate tech companies, ecopreneurs, and society. Our primary goal is to support large companies reduce their emissions by connecting them with climate tech companies that have solutions. We have defined a climate action pathway and created some core products, such as open innovation challenges to connect the dots and drive collaboration and co-innovation.

The AFWERX Vegas innovation hub is a 26,000 sq ft workshop, meeting, incubator, fabrication lab, and co-working space located 1 mile from the Las Vegas Strip, 15 miles from Nellis Air Force Base, and 2 miles from UNLV to take advantage of the connectivity of these ecosystems.

As one of the founding members of the AFWERX team and the team lead for the AFWERX Vegas Hub I have been involved in many amazing initiatives, including:

-  creating and launching AFWERX Challenge (<a href="https://afwerxchallenge.com/">https://afwerxchallenge.com/</a>) as a revolutionary way of connecting Air Force problems with solutions from industry in a rapid way.  Over 35 Challenges have been successfully run leading to over $70M in funding for companies
-  supporting Spark Tank - the Air Force premier program to find proof of concepts and fund them to scale across the enterprise, I have been a pitch coach, program manager, and cheerleader
-   Supporting Spark Cells - coaching and mentoring the 81 innovation cells across the Air and Space Forces
-  Workshops and events - facilitating hundreds of workshops and running in-person and virtual events to drive collaboration and positive change

ROCeteer was initially created as a vehicle to support the investment portfolio companies of Tony Hsieh and the Downtown Project.  We were fortunate enough to be able to work across the entire portfolio of 200+ companies that made up the Vegas Tech Fund and the Small Business Fund.

Since then we have become an established coaching mentoring, training, and consulting company supporting entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial enterprises, and ecosystems in the UK, US, and Australia.  We are a team of passionate people that want to support the doers, makers, and dreamers that are changing the world.

We love supporting entrepreneurs with coaching and challenging their belief systems, ensuring they are focused on what makes them happy, being self-confident, and becoming self-actualized to be the very best that they can be.  We love helping enterprises stay focused on their purpose and aligned as a team with a culture that supports their value proposition.  We also love supporting ecosystems to find a common purpose, maximize collisions and achieve true collaboration and co-learning.

We named our company ROCeteer as we believe that the ROC acronym of Return on Community is more important than ever. My role with the Downtown Project is as CEO of DTP Ventures supporting Tony Hsieh and Fred Mossler to actualize the purpose of making downtown Vegas a place of Inspiration, Entrepreneurial Energy, Creativity, Innovation, Upward Mobility, and Discovery, through the 3 C's of Collisions, Co-learning, and Connectedness in a long-term, sustainable way.

The Downtown Project is an amazing community project, we have access to $350m in funding to acquire and develop real estate in DTLV and also launch and invest in businesses that will support our purpose.  We have funded a portfolio of over 150 tech startups through our Vegas Tech Fund and also over 50 small businesses (restaurants, bars, co-working spaces, retail and service companies) through our Small Business Fund.  We have also invested in the Life Is Beautiful music, art, food & learning  festival, founded a private school and launched an innovative primary health care facility. In addition to this we also support a number of local community based charities to help the youth and homeless populations of the community.

DTP Ventures is a team of over 50 passionate people hoping to support change in DTLV and also support all the businesses we have invested in.  It is an honor and a privilege to work with this team and also on such a worthwhile and meaningful project.  I love our team and also our community :)

We are focussed on driving the two ROC's of Return on Capital and Return on Community (Collisions, Co-learning and Connectedness).

I also work closely with the team at ROCeteer which is a coaching, mentoring and training resource to entrepreneurial ecosystems which was founded in LV to initially support the Downtown Project community. Delivering Happiness started as a book from Tony Hsieh and then became a movement and then a business to support people, teams and communities to implement the science of happiness and happiness as a business model.

My role with Delivering Happiness was to support the Happiness At Work team in creating a partner program; develop a robust coaching/consulting program for culture definition and implementation with teams as well as being a member of the leadership team and support the coaches and community. I co-founded Styletread with 3 friends.  the business started at my house and is currently run out of a 5,000 m2 warehouse/office facility at sydney olympic park with revenues of over $20m

Styletread was built on a solid foundation of customer service standards and a desire to build a working environment that was fun as well as operationally excellent.  We received seed funding from Europe from Lakestar Investments and then further funding from Nine Entertainment and then Starfish Ventures before selling the company (<a href="http://www.powerretail.com.au/pureplay/styletread-sold/">http://www.powerretail.com.au/pureplay/styletread-sold/</a>).

My role with Styletread was to look after merchandising, logistics, human resources, customer service, finance and business development. my partner Bjorn looked after the digital side of the business.

Some highlights of my time with Styletread:

- Starting a business from scratch from idea creation to growing it to a $20m+ revenue    business within 2 years

- Building an amazing team culture and an environment that people enjoyed working in we had an incredibly low turnover rate

- Managing operational execution of a fast growth startup business whilst delivering on customers’ expectations in service

- Building a fantastic footwear range in a short space of time and building meaningful relationships with our suppliers

- Building a customer service centric Customer Happiness Team from the ground up

- Successfully rebranding the business after 2 years to refresh the image of the company, this led
to improvements in conversion levels and positive customer feedback

- Starting the logistics operation for a B2C company from scratch to becoming a successful industry best practice operation

- Implementing an ERP system into a company that was previously running everything of excel spreadsheets

- Completing 3 rounds of fund raising and then finally an exit of the business

Restructure of the operational team and investment in service standards:
Successfully restructured the support office and operational team in australia and also invested in improving the operational standards across all stores.  This delivered an improvement in all operational standards as well as delivered improved customer satisfaction and double digit comparative sales growth across the group.  All touch points to the customer were improved as well as implementing systems that ensured that accurate information was available for decision making by the stores and the support office

Launch of e-learning and B2E initiative
Developed and launched wagamama's first e-learning and B2E initiative which won a number of industry awards for the best training program

Improving the wagamama brand awareness in australia:
Through a targeted strategy of public relations, in-store service, advertising and other marketing strategies grew the brand awareness of wagamama in Australia

Capital raising:
Successfully raised initial and follow up capital to support the turnaround of the company and restructured the business from a trust to a corporate entity which delivered a more stable balance sheet as well as bringing in some sophisticated investors and building a strong board of directors

Launched online takeout:

A senior executive position within Coles Myer Ltd (CML).  At the time CML was Australia’s largest retailer with annual revenues of A$37bn and A$1bn EBIT.  My role was with the Food & Liquor Group.  CML was acquired by Wesfarmers.

results included:

Development and rollout of the cml large format liquor proposition:
led a team of 40+ people to develop and rollout a national large format liquor retail format, 1st choice liquor superstore to be the main growth for the liquor group over the next 10 years

Business turnaround and integration of the online & direct businesses:
delivered a business turnaround from A$1.1m EBIT loss to A$2m EBIT profit in 2 years, with revenues of A$40m, by focussing on profitable customer segments, removing non-value added activities and implementing a more focussed organisational structure

Supermarket liquor integration and rollout strategy
developed and launched CML’s first integrated liquor format within a supermarket taking advantage of regulation changes in the state of victoria. overcoming cultural, process and systems obstacles

Development of convenience liquor format and national rollout:
developed and implemented a new proposition for Liquorland, CMLG’s convenience liquor format (500 stores).  this involved redefining the Liquorland customer proposition and developing a new store design and product range.  a concept store was opened in November 2004 followed by rapid interstate rollout from April 2005, 35 stores converted by November 2005.  the new format delivered improved customer and team member sentiment and delivered double-digit growth in sales

Managing the acquisition and integration of Theo’s Liquor Stores (*$200m+ acquisition)

Key member of a team responsible for a business plan to support the continued manufacture of vehicles for Mitsubishi Australia.  Developed in conjunction with Australian federal government and State Government of South Australia. Funding was approved for a *$900 million investment for a new model from the Mitsubishi head office in Tokyo

Developed the strategic evaluation of the on-line strategy to sell steel direct to customers and avoiding agents for POSCO (the worlds largest steel company – revenue US$25bn). When launched this revolutionised the trade of secondary steel products in the Korean market.
