Developed a fantasy-sports application that allowed for a more casual player to wager money on a shorter-term than standard season-long games. Created flexible JavaScript widgets under a custom JavaScript framework. These were for Dow Jones clients to deliver and consume financial news and information in a variety of formats. Focus was on time to delivery and cross browser compatibility. Reduced 3 month estimated workload to 1 month. Also designed and developed a native iPhone application to consume their custom data. Developed a custom interactive video as a promotion for John Grisham’s next novel that included overlaying the users name onto the video as it was playing. Users could then register for a chance to get their name included in Grisham’s next book. Technologies include Actionscript 3.0, CSS, XHTML and <a href="http://C#.Net">C#.Net</a> webservices.

Thomson Reuters

Developed and maintained multiple internal and external sites, including the mobile version of the Sony Reader Store, and the native display code for the Reader device itself ( eInk ). Responsibilities included overall system architecture for internal applications, as well as database design and implementation. Technologies used included PHP,  MySQL, Zend Framework, HTML 5, CSS 3, JavaScript and jQuery.

Reworked the website for <a href="http://PersonalCreations.com">PersonalCreations.com</a> from scratch for a new design, with a strong focus on quick development time. JavaScript and jQuery were used to enhance the user experience in many aspects. Technologies used included HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery.

Architected and developed online video player which pulled content from a content delivery network (CDN) with streaming pre-roll advertising, and Google analytics tracking. Architected and developed an interactive application to explore recursive relationships between movies and people with a self-arranging force-directed layout. Provided architectural direction for simple extensibility of the service-oriented architecture on the <a href="http://C#.NET">C#.NET</a> back end. Architected and developed a custom engine for property management portal for counties.  The engine was capable of running multiple products each with multiple installs using the same code base and used a custom tag language based on XHTML to define pages which could be overridden by install.  The application also contained a Flash interface to ESRI's ArcIMS Server to provide functionality for locating parcels interactively with richer feedback than HTML / Javascript counterparts. Fingerhut / Petters Group

Developed web applications that allowed salepeople to track Graduation and yearbook events and sales, and also worked on a Flash 5 Tool that allowed real-time design and customization of rings for students to purchase. Technologies used included ASP, COM+, Flash 5, SQL Server, Oracle 9i.

Designed and implemented a commercial e-Manufacturing application targeting manufacturing companies of 10-100 employees. Application modules included all aspects of sales and contact management, stages of production from Orders to Shipping, Data Collections and Payroll, and Accounting. Used N-Tier design with all Data and Business Layer Objects designed in Visual Basic 6 and Visual Basic .NET. The user-interface was designed in Visual Basic, and integrated ASP with SQL Server 2000 for select data retrieval with VBScript and JavaScript for client-side work.

Technical Content Consultant

Responsible for ensuring that the technical content of the book “Flash 5 Actionscript Studio” was accurate, compact, and extensible. Worked with tight deadlines to guarantee a shipping date. Book topics covered all advanced aspects of Flash 5 Actionscript, including dynamic animation, modeling real-world physics (inertia, elasticity, etc.), object-oriented design, game programming, and a 3D engine.

Responsible for design and implementation of an intranet / internet-based application to setup and control devices designed to formulate and dispense chemicals for a variety of uses. The application allowed account managers to setup the devices and formulas tailored to their customer’s needs without needing to understand the complex rules. Server-side VBScript was used in ASP pages to display the information to the clients and talk to an SQL Server Database. Client-side JavaScript was used for validation and other tasks that would not be possible through straight HTML. Macromedia Flash 5 was used to develop a real-time, multi-client chat application that could be used by Technical Support Personnel to communicate with client who were having problems or needed questions answered. The chat client used a server-side Java application to communicate between connected clients by sending dynamically generated XML packets through designated sockets.

Responsible for design and implementation of an internet-based application to improve communication between teachers, administrators, parents, and students. The application also allowed teachers spend less time in creating lesson plans, grading homework, posting announcements, taking attendance, measuring participation, and more. The core of the business logic was contained in Visual Basic DCOM components that retrieved their information from a SQL Server Database. Server-side VBScript and JavaScript were used in ASP pages to display the information to the clients through SSL.
