Fred Wilson is a prominent American venture capitalist and businessman, born on August 20, 1961. He is best known as the co-founder of Union Square Ventures (USV), a New York City-based venture capital firm that has invested in notable companies such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Etsy. Wilson began his career in venture capital in 1987 at Euclid Partners, where he served until 1996. He then co-founded Flatiron Partners, which focused on follow-on investing during the dot-com era, before establishing USV in 2004 with Brad Burnham.123
Wilson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also known for his active blogging on venture capital topics through his platform AVC.21 In addition to his business pursuits, Wilson is involved in various philanthropic efforts, including initiatives in education and technology advocacy in New York City.12
He resides in New York City with his wife, Joanne Wilson, who is also an influential figure in the venture capital community, and they have three children.12
