Namrata Sandhu is a highly regarded sustainability expert and the visionary CEO and co-founder of Vaayu, a startup dedicated to helping retailers reduce their carbon footprint. With over 17 years of experience in sustainability strategy development and implementation, Namrata has established herself as a key player in creating ethical and sustainable supply chains. In addition to her role at Vaayu, Namrata serves as a board member of Nia, an organization that empowers young females through education and choice. Nia aims to provide aspiring girls with the power of choice, the right to opportunity, and help them realize their potential. The organization's name, "Nia," means "purpose" in Swahili, reflecting its mission to empower girls to pursue their dreams and seize opportunities without constraints.12
Prior to founding Vaayu in December 2020, Namrata held significant positions in the retail industry. She served as the Head of Sustainability at Zalando, where she worked to elevate the company's sustainability efforts. She also played a pivotal role in developing and implementing sustainability strategies for the Arcadia Group. This extensive experience in the retail sector led her to identify a critical gap in the market, which inspired the creation of Vaayu.13
At Vaayu, Namrata leads the development of the world's first automated software that empowers retail brands and businesses to track and cut their carbon and environmental impact in real-time. The company has created retail's largest and most accurate impact database, which uses proprietary AI and machine learning technology to calculate impacts such as carbon emissions, water usage, and waste across product, packaging, and logistics.3
Namrata's expertise and thought leadership in sustainability have been widely recognized. She has been featured in prominent publications such as Bloomberg, Business Insider, The Business of Fashion, and CNN. Her educational background includes a Master's degree in Environment and Sustainable Development from University College London, where she conducted research on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, in collaboration with UN organizations.4
Namrata's ultimate goal is to decelerate climate change by fostering group change to reduce retail emissions globally. She is committed to preventing climate tipping points and limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius, in alignment with the Paris Agreement. Through her work at Vaayu and her involvement with organizations like Nia, Namrata continues to inspire and lead by example, striving for a sustainable future for all.4
