Erica Mosca is an exemplary leader in education and a dedicated social justice advocate, whose career has been shaped by her firsthand experiences with educational inequity. As a proud first-generation college graduate, daughter of an immigrant, and advocate for underrepresented communities, Erica embodies resilience and innovation. She holds a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor's degree from Boston University, where she studied Journalism, an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and an Ed.M. in Education Policy and Management from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. Her outstanding commitment to education and social justice was recognized when she received the Young Alumni of the Year award from Boston University in 2019, as well as the 2020 Public Education Foundation's Education Hero of the Year award.
Throughout her career, Erica has accumulated a wealth of experience in the education sector, serving in various impactful roles. She began her journey as a Corps Member and Teacher with Teach For America in the Las Vegas Valley, where she was exposed to the challenges faced by students in underfunded schools. This experience laid the groundwork for her steadfast commitment to empowering students and advocating for systemic change. After her initial teaching stint, Erica took on numerous leadership positions including that of Academic Dean at Teach For America and Special Project Manager for Clark County School District Superintendent Dwight Jones. Her diverse experiences within the educational landscape have equipped her with unique insights into the multifaceted challenges that persist in the field of education.
Education and Achievements
Erica's robust educational background underscores her commitment to personal and professional growth, as well as her understanding of the educational process. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Journalism at Boston University with honors, followed by an M.Ed focused on Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Further refining her expertise, she acquired an Ed.M. in Education Policy and Management from the prestigious Harvard Graduate School of Education. This educational foundation has propelled her career and guided her mission to address systemic inequities within the education system.
In August 2012, driven by a desire to make a lasting impact in her community, Erica founded Leaders in Training (LIT), an organization dedicated to empowering young people, particularly those from underrepresented communities. Under her leadership, LIT has seen remarkable growth—from a modest budget of less than $10,000 serving just 20 students, to an organization boasting over 200 students in grades 9 through college and an impressive annual budget exceeding $300,000. The success of Leaders in Training is a testimony to Erica's vision of community empowerment, providing youth with the tools they need to lead and succeed on their own terms.

She is an avid fan of J-Cole, enjoys wearing rompers, is passionate about her hometown of Las Vegas, and delights in helping others forge meaningful relationships. She is committed to the cause of education and community empowerment, believing that education is not merely a tool for personal advancement but a pathway to social change.
Having married her husband, Nicholas Jared Smith, over Zoom during the quarantine in April 2020, Erica has found a supportive partner who shares her dedication to service, as he serves in his 15th year in the United States Air Force, stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. The couple lives together with their beloved dog Panda, and reside close to their families and LIT students, which allows Erica to maintain a connection with her work and community.
