David Hopwood, a talented and versatile entertainment professional hailing from Los Angeles, has carved out an impressive career in film and television production and development. With a strong educational foundation provided by his degrees in Creative Writing and Cinema/Television from The University of Southern California, David has effectively blended his creative instincts with a keen understanding of the business side of the entertainment industry. He began his dynamic career by entering the rigorous training program at Michael Ovitz's renowned Artist Management Group, where he gained invaluable experience working under the mentorship of celebrated talent manager and producer Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, currently the CEO of The Gotham Group.
In 2002, David's trajectory shifted towards production when he joined industry leader Mark Canton, known for iconic films such as '300' and 'Immortals.' As an assistant at Atmosphere Entertainment, he quickly demonstrated his aptitude for production, earning recognition for his vital contributions and ultimately rising to the esteemed position of President of Production and Development. Under Hopwood's leadership, Atmosphere Entertainment produced an array of successful films including 'The Spiderwick Chronicles,' 'Piranha 3D,' 'Letters to Juliet,' 'Immortals,' 'Cake,' 'Mr. Church,' '300: Rise of an Empire,' and 'Den of Thieves.' Furthermore, David showcased his talent for television by aiding in the development and sale of the hit series 'Power' for Starz, marking a significant achievement in his expansive career.
In a testament to his expertise and passion for education, David took a break from his production endeavors in 2017 to share his knowledge with aspiring filmmakers as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University's Los Angeles Program. He taught juniors and seniors from the prestigious Newhouse School of Communications the in-depth course 'Business and Development of Film Production.' This course provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the film-making process, covering every step from initial concept to the final distribution of their creative works, thus preparing the next generation of filmmakers for success in the industry.
In 2019, David transitioned from his successful tenure at Atmosphere Entertainment to become Head of Production and Development at the newly-founded KITUUFU Entertainment. In this role, he continues to exercise his extensive knowledge of the entertainment industry to nurture creative projects and bring compelling stories to life. David is also an active member of the Producer's Guild of America (PGA), further exemplifying his commitment to the growth and evolution of the cinematic arts.
